Frequently Asked Questions

Who guides these journeys?+

Licensed local guides chosen for each site and briefed on your interests. In Egypt that means a qualified Egyptologist guide; at Angkor and on the Inca Trail, guides licensed for those sites. If you would like a more academic guide, we look for one on request, subject to availability.

Can you arrange private or after-hours access?+

Only where a site sells it, such as early-entry and evening openings at the Vatican Museums or the extra tickets for some tombs in Luxor's Valley of the Kings. We never promise access to closed areas; anything special is confirmed in writing before you pay.

Are these group tours?+

No. Each itinerary is designed as a private journey for your own party and is adjusted to your dates, pace and interests.

When should we book?+

Three to six months ahead for most routes. For the Inca Trail between May and August, book six months or more ahead, as permits sell out; the trail also closes every February for maintenance.

How physically demanding are they?+

Most involve moderate walking over uneven ground, stairs and heat. The Inca Trail is a multi-day trek at altitude and needs good fitness; the Peru itinerary reaches Machu Picchu by train instead. We adjust any route for mobility needs.

Are heritage hotels comfortable?+

We choose historic properties with modern comforts such as air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms, and tell you plainly where a characterful stay means smaller rooms or stairs.
