Muscat · Wahiba · Musandam · 7 nights
Seven nights from Muscat to Musandam, paced around the days that matter.
Seven nights across three stops: Muscat for three nights, the Wahiba Sands for two and Musandam for two. Every transfer between them is private and timed around the day's plan.
The days are built around Mosque, Souk and Old Muscat; Dune Camp and Bedouin Hospitality; Dhow Cruise Through the Khors; and Wadis, Nizwa and the Mountains. Each one is set out below with what you will see, how you get there and which meals are included.
The defining moment of this route: dune-drive at golden hour with a Bedouin guide. Your travel specialist can add a night, swap a day or change the order before you book.
Day by day
Arrive at Muscat International, about 30 minutes by road to Mutrah or Qurum and transfer privately to your base. Time today to walk the Mutrah corniche and into the souk as it opens for the evening.
The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, open to non-Muslims on weekday mornings with modest dress, the Royal Opera House, Mutrah souk and the forts at Old Muscat.
Wadi Shab's pools reached on foot and by short swim, Nizwa fort and its Friday goat market, and the terraced village of Misfat al Abriyeen.
Drive inland from Muscat with a 4x4 transfer across the dune edge. On arrival, deflate tyres at the sand edge and drive in for the sunset.
Orange dunes running 180 kilometres north to south, a Bedouin family visit with camel's milk and coffee, and a night in a desert camp.
Drive back to Muscat, about three hours, and fly to Khasab in about an hour. On arrival, walk the small harbour town and look out at the fjord walls.
A full-day dhow into the fjord-like inlets of the Musandam peninsula, with dolphins alongside, a swim and snorkel stop, and the fishing village of Kumzar in the distance.
A last harbour morning before the transfer out. Private transfer to Khasab airport in good time for your onward flight.
October to April. Summer temperatures in the desert are extreme.
Oman is known for being welcoming and calm. Desert camps and dhow cruises suit children, and we choose camps with family tents.
Musandam is separated from the rest of Oman by the UAE. You reach Khasab by a short domestic flight from Muscat or by road from Dubai.
Three to four months ahead gives the widest choice of rooms and guided days, and more for school holidays, festivals and peak season. Shorter notice is often possible; ask and we will check live availability.
Yes. Every journey is a starting point: add or remove nights, swap a day's plan, change hotels or reorder the route, and your travel specialist re-plans the whole trip around it.
Your quote sets out the deposit that confirms the booking and the date the balance is due. Both depend on the hotels, airlines and guides involved, so they are agreed with you before you pay anything.
