Austria

Austria · 8 nights

Imperial Vienna. Alpine Salzburg. The Tyrolean Peaks of Innsbruck.

The Journey

Austria sits at the centre of Europe's most dramatic geography, the Eastern Alps, and has spent centuries converting that landscape into culture. Vienna is one of the great imperial capitals: the Habsburgs built Schonbrunn Palace with 1,441 rooms. Salzburg, birthplace of Mozart and setting of The Sound of Music, is a baroque masterpiece compressed into a bend of the Salzach River. Innsbruck sits in an Inn Valley so perfectly framed by the Nordkette mountain range that the city itself feels like a theatrical set.

The itinerary connects all three by rail, with a day trip to Hallstatt, a descent into the Salzburg Salt Mines, and a visit to Swarovski Crystal Worlds at Wattens.

Common Questions

Is the itinerary suitable for a 15-year-old?+

Entirely. The Salt Mines, Swarovski Crystal Worlds, Hallstatt, and Sound of Music landscape work across ages; train travel adds adventure that younger travellers enjoy.

Are the tours private or shared?+

SIC tours are small group experiences departing from city centre points; guests reach pickup independently. Airport and inter-hotel transfers are private.

Are most European hotels air-conditioned?+

In May, A/C is rarely required. Most hotels in this itinerary lack standard A/C; relevant for July/August travel but not for a May departure (typically 12-20C).

What should we know about the triple room configuration?+

The third bed is frequently a rollaway rather than a built-in third single; varies by hotel and cannot be guaranteed in advance. Raise specific bedding requirements at booking.

How far in advance should we book?+

Three to four months ahead gives the widest choice of rooms and guided days, and more for school holidays, festivals and peak season. Shorter notice is often possible; ask and we will check live availability.

Can the itinerary be customised?+

Yes. Every journey is a starting point: add or remove nights, swap a day's plan, change hotels or reorder the route, and your travel specialist re-plans the whole trip around it.
