Cairo · Bahariya · White Desert · 8 nights
Eight nights from Cairo to the White Desert, paced around the days that matter.
Eight nights across three stops: Cairo for three nights, Bahariya Oasis for three and the White Desert for two. Every transfer between them is private and timed around the day's plan.
The days are built around Giza and Saqqara, Oasis Life and the Black Desert, Chalk Formations and Desert Camp and The Grand Egyptian Museum. Each one is set out below with what you will see, how you get there and which meals are included.
The defining moment of this route: overnight camp among the chalk formations. Your travel specialist can add a night, swap a day or change the order before you book.
Day by day
Arrive at Cairo International, 45-90 minutes by road depending on traffic and transfer privately to your base. Time today to settle in and see the pyramids lit from a rooftop if your view allows.
The three Giza pyramids and the Sphinx early, the interior of one pyramid for those who want it, and Saqqara's Step Pyramid, the oldest stone building of its size.
The full Tutankhamun collection now shown together for the first time, with the Hanging Church and Ben Ezra synagogue in Coptic Cairo afterwards.
Drive southwest from Cairo across the desert to Bahariya. On arrival, settle in the oasis and swim in a hot spring under the palms.
Palm and olive groves, the Golden Mummies museum and the tombs at Bawiti, and the volcanic black-capped hills south of the oasis.
The quartz ridge of Crystal Mountain, the Agabat valley's sculpted formations, and dune driving on the way towards the White Desert.
Drive south by 4x4 from Bahariya into the national park. On arrival, reach camp in time to watch the chalk formations turn pink at sunset.
Wind-carved chalk pillars, mushrooms and chickens across the plain, with a simple Bedouin camp, dinner cooked in the sand and exceptional star cover.
A sunrise among the formations before the drive back. Private transfer to Cairo, about five to six hours by road via Bahariya Oasis, in good time for your onward flight.
Bahariya and the White Desert are visited with licensed local guides and 4x4 drivers. We follow current government travel advice before every departure.
October to April. Desert nights can be cold in winter, so warm layers are needed in camp.
You sleep in a simple camp among the chalk formations, with dinner cooked over a fire. Tents and bedding are provided; facilities are basic.
Three to four months ahead gives the widest choice of rooms and guided days, and more for school holidays, festivals and peak season. Shorter notice is often possible; ask and we will check live availability.
Yes. Every journey is a starting point: add or remove nights, swap a day's plan, change hotels or reorder the route, and your travel specialist re-plans the whole trip around it.
Your quote sets out the deposit that confirms the booking and the date the balance is due. Both depend on the hotels, airlines and guides involved, so they are agreed with you before you pay anything.
