Sorrento · Milan · Split · Dubrovnik · 15 nights
The Amalfi Coast. The Italian Lakes. The Dalmatian Coast.
This itinerary opens in Sorrento, perched above the Bay of Naples and within reach of Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast, and Capri's Blue Grotto. From there it moves north to Milan, used as a base for day trips into the Bernina Express through the Alps, Lake Como's villages, and Venice itself. The final chapter crosses the Adriatic into Croatia: Split's Roman heritage and island-hopping access, then Dubrovnik's walled old town, instantly recognisable to anyone who has watched a certain HBO series.
Moments shaped just for you

Roman city buried by Vesuvius's 79 AD eruption, rediscovered in astonishing preservation; pairing ruins with the volcano adds immediacy.

Three towns, three personalities, along one of the world's most celebrated coastal drives.

Sea cave where sunlight refracts through water to create an electric blue glow, accessible by small rowboat through a narrow entrance.
Celebrated rail journey climbing from Italy into Switzerland through the Bernina Pass, UNESCO-listed engineering, glacier views, the Brusio spiral viaduct.
Sixteen terraced lakes connected by waterfalls and wooden boardwalks; Croatia's most visited natural site.
Walled Old Town served as King's Landing; walking tour combines this reputation with genuine historical weight of the wall system.
Day by day
Transfer from Naples airport along the coast to Sorrento, perched on cliffs above the Bay of Naples with Vesuvius across the water.
Walk the streets, villas and forum of Pompeii, buried in AD 79, then drive up Vesuvius and hike to the crater rim.
The coast road to Positano's pastel houses, the cathedral town of Amalfi and the hilltop gardens of Ravello.
Ferry to Capri for a day trip with Blue Grotto entry, or a shared boat trip around the island if the grotto is closed by the sea.
A free day in Sorrento: lemon groves, limoncello tastings, a swim from a bathing platform, or a cooking class.
High-speed train from Naples to Milan, about 4 hours 40 minutes. Evening walk to the Duomo and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
Travel north to Tirano and board the Bernina Express, the UNESCO-listed railway that climbs over the Alps past glaciers and the Brusio spiral viaduct to St Moritz, returning to Milan in the evening.
A day trip to Lake Como with a one-hour boat cruise and time in Bellagio, the 'pearl of the lake', among its lanes and lakeside gardens.
Train to Venice, about 2½ hours, for a guided city tour of St Mark's Square and the canals, returning to Milan in the evening.
A free day in Milan. Our suggestions: The Last Supper (book well ahead), the Brera district and the Navigli canals at aperitivo time.
Fly across the Adriatic to Split. Walk into Diocletian's Palace, the Roman emperor's retirement palace that now forms the old town, and along the Riva promenade.
A speedboat day to the Blue Cave on Biševo, the Stiniva cove and Hvar town, subject to sea conditions and availability.
A day trip to Plitvice Lakes, a UNESCO site of 16 terraced lakes linked by waterfalls and wooden walkways, with park entry included.
Coach along the Dalmatian coast to Dubrovnik, about 3¾ hours. Afternoon walking tour of the old town and the city walls.
A short boat to Lokrum island for its peacocks, gardens and swimming rocks, and a walk through the old-town streets used as King's Landing in Game of Thrones.
Transfer to Dubrovnik airport for your flight home.
The full itinerary delivers genuine depth across two countries. For less time, we can compress the Milan chapter or choose Split or Dubrovnik rather than both.
Its narrow entrance makes it highly sensitive to sea conditions; closures are common. The day proceeds as a full shared boat tour circling the island instead.
A single Schengen visa covers both, since Croatia joined the Schengen Area in January 2023.
Wooden boardwalks are well-maintained and largely flat; the full circuit involves several kilometres of walking. Sturdy footwear recommended, some sections slippery near waterfalls.
Bellagio and Varenna for village charm and ferry links, Cernobbio for grand villa hotels near Como town, and Tremezzo for views and gardens. We match the village to your plans.
At least two, ideally three. Staying overnight lets you enjoy the city early and late, when day visitors have gone, and avoids the day-tripper fee.
Yes. Lake ferries, gondolas, glass-blowing demonstrations and easy mountain walks suit children. Venice's bridges and steps are hard with buggies, so pack a carrier for toddlers.
