Sapporo · Niseko · Otaru · 7 nights
Seven nights from Sapporo to Otaru, paced around the days that matter.
Seven nights across three stops: Sapporo for three nights, Niseko for two and Otaru for two. Every transfer between them is private and timed around the day's plan.
The days are built around City, Market and Beer; Skiing the Four Bases; Canal, Glass and Sushi; and Otaru and the Coast. Each one is set out below with what you will see, how you get there and which meals are included.
The defining moment of this route: powder mornings in Niseko and an onsen evening under falling snow. Your travel specialist can add a night, swap a day or change the order before you book.
Day by day
Arrive at New Chitose airport, about 50 minutes by train or road into the city and transfer privately to your base. Time today to walk Odori Park and eat ramen in the lanes off Susukino.
The Nijo fish market and Curb Market for Hokkaido seafood, the old government building, and the Sapporo Beer Museum in the original brewery.
Forty minutes to the canal town of Otaru for glassworks, sushi and the herring-boom warehouses, returning past Mount Moiwa for the night view.
Transfer from Sapporo or New Chitose across Hokkaido to the Niseko valley. On arrival, settle in and look across to Mount Yōtei as the light goes.
Grand Hirafu, Hanazono, Niseko Village and Annupuri share one lift pass and some of the most reliable powder snowfall in the world, from December to March.
Drive north to Otaru on the Sea of Japan coast, about an hour and a half. On arrival, walk the canal as the gas lamps come on.
The stone warehouses along the canal, the glassworks and music-box workshops, and Sushiya-dōri, where the fish comes off local boats.
A last sushi breakfast before the train onwards. Private transfer to New Chitose airport in good time for your onward flight.
January and February, when snowfall is heaviest. The ski season usually runs from December to early April.
