Finnish Lapland · 5 nights
Where the Aurora Dances and Santa Claus Lives.
Finnish Lapland sits almost entirely above the Arctic Circle. In deep winter, the sun barely clears the horizon, sometimes not at all. What replaces daylight is the Aurora Borealis, visible on clear nights as green and sometimes violet light rippling across the sky.
This itinerary spends two nights in Saariselka, one of Finland's most northerly resort villages and among the best Aurora-viewing locations in the country, before moving south to Rovaniemi, officially the capital of Lapland and, by tradition, Santa Claus's official hometown.
Moments shaped just for you
No sighting can be guaranteed; the dedicated evening tour combines guide expertise (tracking solar activity and cloud cover) with an open-fire BBQ while you wait.
Sled dogs essential to Arctic Finland for generations; paired with an electric fat bike segment for two distinct registers of Arctic movement.
Reindeer herding remains central to Sami culture; included sleigh ride and salmon soup lunch, a genuine Lapland staple.
Straddling the Arctic Circle line outside Rovaniemi; visitors can physically cross into the Arctic Circle, visit the official post office, and meet Santa Claus year-round.
Optional full-day extension: a real icebreaker cutting through the frozen Bothnian Bay, followed by ice floating in insulated dry suits.
Day by day
Finnair from Delhi to Helsinki, then on to Ivalo, Finland's northernmost airport. Private transfer to your aurora cabin with a glass roof.
A husky safari through the forest (on sleds once there is snow, by cart in autumn), paired with an electric fat-bike ride on the trails. Watch for the aurora from your cabin at night.
A scenic coach journey south, about 3½ hours, to Rovaniemi. In the evening, a three-hour aurora-hunting tour from 8 pm with a Lapland barbecue around an open fire.
Short reindeer and husky sleigh rides, then Santa Claus Village, which straddles the Arctic Circle, with a salmon soup lunch.
A free day, or an optional full-day icebreaker cruise from Kemi on the frozen Bothnian Bay in winter, including a float in the ice in a survival suit.
Transfer to Rovaniemi airport for your connecting flight via Helsinki to Delhi.
No tour operator can guarantee a sighting; it depends on solar activity, cloud cover, and clear dark skies. We guarantee positioning in one of the best viewing regions, expert guides, and a worthwhile evening regardless of outcome.
Very much so, Santa Claus Village is built for exactly this. Husky and reindeer sleigh rides work well for most ages; the overnight Aurora hunt (starting 8pm) may run late for very young children.
February temperatures typically range -10C to -25C, occasionally colder during clear, calm conditions (also the best conditions for Aurora viewing). Proper layering makes this manageable.
If the itinerary allows the extra day and budget, we recommend it without reservation; guests who add it consistently describe it as a trip highlight.
Three to four months ahead gives the widest choice of rooms and guided days, and more for school holidays, festivals and peak season. Shorter notice is often possible; ask and we will check live availability.
Yes. Every journey is a starting point: add or remove nights, swap a day's plan, change hotels or reorder the route, and your travel specialist re-plans the whole trip around it.
